The Zamfara State First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Bello Matawalle has on Saturday led a walk against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the state as part of her activities for the 16 days of Activism against violence on women and children in the state.
The walk which was held in close collaboration with the First Lady's office and the Ministry for Women and Children Affairs had the Emir of Gusau's Palace and Zamfara State Police Command as the main point of advocacy, according to statement issued by Zainab shuaibu Abdullahi, Media aide to Zamfara First Lady.
Speaking at the palace of the Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, the First lady said, the walk was to demonstrate the commitments and concerns of the present administration in the state led by Governor Bello Muhammad in the fight against GBV.
The first lady expressed her delight in reaching out to his royal highness who is an epitome of the society's influencers. As a traditional leader he has a very strong role to play in eliminating violence, encouraging reporting of violence, and cautioning on the society's stigmatization of victims.
Hajiya Aisha Matawalle expressed gratitude to his royal Highness for all his continuing support he has been extending to women and children in his effort to saving humanity from all kinds of crises.
Responding, the Emir of Gusau Alhaji Ibrahim Bello expressed appreciation to Her Excellency's efforts in reaching out with massive mobilization to end violence against women and children.
In a similar light, the First lady also paid a visit to the State Commissioner of Police, Ayuba Elkanah where she solicited for his support in the fight on violence perpetrated against women and children.
In his remarks, the Zamfara Commissioner of Police, Ayuba Elkanah commended the First lady and her entourage for the visit which he described as a timely and welcome development.
The Commissioner of Police ensure her Excellency’s of his hundred percent support to the campaign.
"I will do my best to ensure that anybody found committing the ugly offense must face the law, police in Zamfara will never compromise on any case of gender violence" Elkanah explained.
While also speaking at the event ,the Hon. Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Dr Rabi Ibrahim Shinkafi pledged the full collaboration of her ministry to the First lady's Vision of protecting women and children against all forms of abuse.
Participants at the walk are the Hon.Commissioner of Information, Alhaji Ibrahim Magaji Dosara,Commissioner of Education, Hajiya Zainab Lawal Gummi, Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Alhaji Yahaya Muhammad Kanoma, State Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hajiya Aisha Waziri, members of the State Steering Committee on GBV, Journalists, Youth, Women groups, Civil Society Organizations and other top government's officials in the state.
